  • Make friends
  • Find out about the world around us
  • Help others and make a difference

Colonies, lodges and lodge leaders

The Beavers section is known as a Beaver Colony.

Our Colony is a made up of 4 Lodges. A Lodge is a smaller group of Beavers, headed up by a young person who takes on a peer leadership role known as a Lodge Leader.

Being a lodge leader is about being a superhero for a little while – doing things like welcoming new people to the Colony, being extra helpful during a camp, or taking charge of a game or activity. Everyone takes it in turns to take on the challenge.

Beavers usually stand together in their Lodges at the beginning and end of meetings. They tend to stick together on trips away, or during certain activities.

Leaders

Beaver Section Leader: Tina

Section Assistants: Paul, Alex and Sam

Young Leaders: Lucie, Oliver, Amelia, Laura and Ella

All our adult leaders are trained volunteers.

Camps and Activities

As outdoor activities and adventure are a central part of Scouting we try to offer a variety of activities on top of the weekly meetings.

This year Beavers have been hiking, bowling, climbing and tried bivouac making and fire lighting amongst other things.  They also had the chance to attend group camp in the summer and an indoor camp in the winter.  These are always great fun and allow them to develop independence, learn new skills, and learn a lot about themselves too.

Badges and Awards

The following can be earnt in the Beavers Section:

  • Activity badges- such as Gardener, Builder, Camp Craft
  • Staged Activity badges - such as Navigator, Community Impact and Musician
  • Challenge Awards - These awards are worked over a couple of years and challenge Beavers to step outside their comfort zone. Complete all 6 and 4 activity awards to earn the Bronze award.
  • The Chief Scouts Bronze award - This is the highest award a Beaver can earn.

There’s never any pressure to do badges and requirements can be adjusted by leaders to suit the abilities of the the child.

Badges should be sewn onto Jumpers as shown here .
